Hi at last!

Hi everyone! Finally, I get to log in and type something. It's most meaningful that I get to write this considering Sonshine Playhouse turns one on 25th April. We celebrated with a little cake this morning. Looking back, it really is a miracle how Sonshine started.

Aimos was 3 and Aimee was nearly 1 at the time when I read a mom's sharing thru Homefrontier (the homeschooling e-group) about she taking her 4 and 5 yr old girls to PJ EFC (Evangelical Free Church) playgroup. I immediately enquired about the playgroup and of course checked it out, and wow! I liked it! Justine came along after that, followed by Elaine, and we then went to Glad Tidings Bounce Playhouse for about 1/2 year. This started in September 2006.

And so the idea of running a playgroup was mentioned, and we brood over it, pray over it, and cutting a story short, Sonshine was born. It has gone thru many metamorphosis : change of location (only from upstairs to downstairs), change of day (Wednesday to Tuesday), change of sequence of activities (from Craft Time/Snack/Mat Time to Mat Time/Snack/Craft Time and now Mat Time/Craft Time/Snack Time) and followed by lots of free play by the children themselves and free talk amongst the moms!

Initially it was only Justine and myself doing most of the work, and of course Elaine occasionally, (Elaine's our prayer warrior for the group!), and we found a jewel when God provided Lian Ching (pls correct my spelling, Justine); and then now we have a pretty regular cook - Liz with her stream of delicious and healthy brunch, and of course not forgetting our home made pizza by our dear Wai Han!

It's such a great joy to see the children grow and also all the other new moms and children. I thank my Lord Jesus for having caused us to take this path, though initially there was a little apprehension.

Playgroup Policy

We are not a school/kindergarten but a playgroup run mainly by volunteer mothers in the church premises. As there are expenses involved in the running of this group, we would require a fixed contribution from parents to help defray costs. (RM20 per child per month collected at the beginning of each quarter. Subsequent children of the same family need only to contribute RM10 each month)

We would also wish to communicate to you about God’s love; as such there will be Bible stories, prayers and Christian songs.

In order to maintain goodwill among all parties, both parents of the child would need to be fully aware of the above and therefore give full consent for the child to participate in all the playgroup activities, as well as for the parents to make financial contributions as and when required upon submitting the registration form.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is it for?
Children 6 months to 5 years (accompanied by parent)
Children above 1.5 yrs will enjoy mostof the activities and craft. Babies may enjoy the songs and story telling

What should I bring to the playhouse?
Your child’s own drink (if you wish to) and a change of clothes

Who keeps the toys?
Your child ought only to play with one toy at a time. Mom sees that your child returns the toy to its original position before taking another toy. Ensure there are no missing parts. An incomplete toy may frustrate the next child playing with it.

Do I sit through Mat Time?
Moms, you are an important role to your child. By sitting together with your child on the carpets, your child will feel you are with him/her in the activities. You are also encouraged to participate by singing and doing the actions along.

How do we fund the Playgroup?
S☼nshine Playĥouse is a non-profit making playgroup set up by volunteer moms. A contribution of RM20 per child (RM10 for each subsequent child of the same family) is collected at the beginning of each quarter for the purpose of covering expenses e.g. art & craft materials, stationery, new toys, beverages, etc.

Who provides food for the Snacks Time?
A roster will be pinned up on the notice board. We encourage you to assist in providing simple and healthy snacks as often as you wish. RM10 will be refunded to you for each contribution.

What if I am unable to attend for a period of time?
Do inform us in advance of your intended absence. This helps us plan accordingly and we will continue to place your child on our register.

May I bring my maid along?
In line of our objectives, we do not encourage you to bring your maid along. Let this be your quality time with your child.
